The 15-member Arts Council, appointed by the Board of Commissioners, advises Commissioners on arts and cultural related policy. Each commissioner appoints two members for two-year rotating terms.

Charles H. Green, Chair
Appointed by Fulton County Board of Commissioners
Earned a B.S. in Finance from the University of Alabama and has been involved in small business financing for more than 25 years. In 2005 Charles was named the “Financial Services Champion of the Year” by the Georgia District of the U.S. Small Business Administration. In addition to chairing the Fulton County Arts Council, he serves on the Board of Atlanta Dogwood Festival and on the Community Advisory Board of the Atlanta Medical Center. Charles H. Green is a graduate of Leadership Atlanta and the Regional Leadership Institute and the former chair of Georgia Resource Capital and the Georgia Lenders Quality Circle.
Linda Dorsey, Vice Chair
Appointed by Commissioner Tom Lowe, District 4
Linda Dorsey earned a BA in Music Performance and studied at the Cincinnati Conservatory. Mrs. Dorsey is an avid arts advocate and an accomplished pianist. As owner and operator of the Dorsey Music Studio she has overseen the training of hundreds of children and young adults in keyboard, performance etiquette and music theory. She served on numerous boards in both the arts and child advocacy arenas, including the CURE Board for Childhood Cancer, Encore Park for the Arts and the Public Art Committee. Mrs. Dorsey has also been instrumental in major fund raising efforts for Children’s Medical Center of Atlanta, Piedmont Hospital and the American Heart Association. Most recently, she was sworn in as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children. Her work on the Arts Council began in 1992 and her tenure has notably been extended by appointments from four Fulton County Commissioners.
Laurel Rommel, Secretary

Laurel Rummel is a graphic designer and owner of the design firm good, clean design in Atlanta, Georgia. She has taught design at the college level and has worked in the graphic design/advertising/publishing industry for more than 20 years. Prior to founding her own company, Ms. Rummel was art director at AAA Motor Club South, United Landmark Associates and Habitat for Humanity International. Her design firm has produced materials for Home Depot, Atlanta Public Schools, the City of Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs' annual jazz festival. Born and raised in Florida, Laurel studied at the University of South Florida in Tampa and received a BA in Fine Arts.

Imara Canady returned to Atlanta after working with the Chicago Community Trust for two years. Prior to moving to Chicago, Imara was Special Assistant to former Atlanta Mayor, Shirley Franklin and Communications Director/Press Secretary for her successful election in 2001. Imara’s career as a public servant started in 1997 he served as Special Projects Coordinator for the City of Atlanta Imara has a strong passion for arts and culture. He has been a consultant to the City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs and worked on the staff of the Theatre and Dance Programs for the 1996 Cultural Olympiad.

Joan Compton
Appointed by Commissioner Lynne Riley, District 3
Joan Compton is a former student at the Ocee Arts Center and served on the Ocee Board of Directors. From those beginnings she has developed a career as a professional artist, specializing in murals and trompe-l'œil. An accomplished website developer, she previously enjoyed an 18-year career in medical imaging as a software engineer and manager. Ms. Compton is an exemplary volunteer leader with extensive service to local community non profits and schools. Ms. Compton earned a M.A.S. in Computer Science from Boston University and a BS in Physics from Denison University.
Barbara Lyles-Anderson

Barbara Lyles-Anderson A native of South Carolina is a professional engineer who has lived in Atlanta for 20 years. She graduated magna cum laude from Clemson University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and was formerly a vice president and board member at a major Atlanta based engineering consulting firm. The founder of Pentacle Consulting Inc., she currently serves as that company’s president. Ms. Lyle-Anderson’s community involvement in Fulton County is extensive. Appointed to the Fulton County Arts Council for a total of 15 years by two Commissioners, she chaired the Council Initiated Projects (CIP) Committee for many years.

Nancy Reynolds
Appointed by Commissioner Nancy A. Boxill, District 6
Nancy F. Reynolds is a former partner in the firm of Elarbee Thompson, where she represented employers nationwide in labor relations and affirmative action compliance. She received a B.A. with honors in English from the University of the South before graduating from Law School at Vanderbilt University. Ms. Reynolds is a member of the Atlanta and American Bar Associations and the State Bar of Georgia. She was named a Georgia Super Lawyer in 2004, 2005 and 2006 and is Past President of the Rotary Club of Brookhaven. A native Atlantan, Ms. Reynolds is committed to protecting and expanding Atlanta's rich quality of life. A member of the Midtown Neighbors’ Association, Midtown Parents’ Group, the Midtown Ponce Security Alliance and the Piedmont Park Conservancy Attorney Nancy Reynolds is a longstanding contributor to numerous arts venues in Atlanta.

Fulton County Arts & Culture Leadership
Interim Director
Michael Simanga is a multi-discipline artist working as a writer, producer, director and performer in literature, music, theatre and performance arts and a presenter in all disciplines. He is currently Deputy Director of the Fulton County Arts Council and artistic director of the Southwest Arts Center where he has directed, produced and presented more than 200 cultural events including plays, exhibitions, festivals, films and concerts. He is the author of the critically acclaimed novel, In the Shadow of the Son and his writing appears in several anthologies. As a producer Simanga has worked with Grammy winning singers Cassandra Wilson and Dionne Farris and poet Sonia Sanchez on her groundbreaking CD – Full Moon of Sonia. He is co-editor of the anthology 44 on 44: Forty-Four African American Writers on the Election of Barack Obama Forty-Fourth President of the USA.
